Work during the summer months has seen an exploration of the private performance element of my practice. Before committing a mark to the gesso surface I rehearse repeatedly the gesture or gestures that I am wishing to render in ink. These historically are made and captured on paper, never observed or seen outside of the studio. In a desire to reveal this hidden process and understand the time and progression of the drawings I have been laminating rice paper with the marks made in chronological order before the action of taking it to gesso.
The results are the marks own witness testimonies to my processes. They each in turn become the notes of a journey and my reaction and interaction with its’ origination. A legacy towards the next one.
