I have a desire to work with an honesty and integrity with my materials. Choosing to make my own gesso, select the purest of pigments and work with non-toxic materials wherever possible. A development within the studio palette has been using self-made rice glue and paste to laminate the rice and mulberry papers and to stain the papers with a charcoal paste giving a depth of ground upon which the monoprints are earthed. They, like large Neolithic earthworks photographed or x-rayed from above, have a sense of scale and permanence. Giving weight to what are light touches and washes of pigment to the thinest of papers.
