I was invited to participate in a Charity Auction to raise money for UNICEF to be held at the Le Meridien Hotel Piccadilly, London on the 2nd March. A partnership between Caiger Contemporary Art, the gallery for the hotel and Illy Coffee. I had to respond to the notion of “Cafe Lifestyle”. Intrigued by coffee as much as the theme I went about researching the possibility of making ink from coffee. Below is a little gallery of the process and the finished artwork that you can make a bid on here.
I was struck by the Baristas skill when crafting the floral or figurative designs on our lattes with steamed milk. It was a tight wrist action using the fluidity of the milk to push the brown coffee tones around to create their desired image. I wanted to create a single fluid gesture from the wrist.
